09. März 2025 – What a journey – from Austria to Boston, to an Austrian Ball in Boston. After a short time at home with my loved ones, I am back in the game again.
Landing at Boston Logan Airport brought back memories of my arrival here in the fall – unsure what to expect and where the journey might take me. This time, coming back felt like diving into both the unknown and old familiar waters.
The weeks have filled up quickly with classwork, the projects I am working on – particularly my master’s project – and catching up with friends.
Viennese Ball
One particular highlight was attending the Viennese ball at the Harvard Club of Boston. Hitting the dancefloor with friends and meeting so many Austrians was a true joy. I also loved wearing my new dress for the first time. The glitter it lost helped me find my way back wherever I went – Hänsel & Gretel should have swapped their breadcrumbs for a glitter dress!
Oh, and another little highlight was the neckless that all women were gifted by the city of Vienna as traditional “Damenspende”.

Racing through the Semester
Time seems to move even faster than it did before. Midterms are already here, and I can’t believe that graduation is just around the corner. This also means, I have to pick up the pace with working on Capstone project and paper!
Next Stop: New York and Mexico
Right now, I am in the train on my way to New York City for a class, before I’ll board another airplane to spend spring break in Mexico. The upcoming weeks are full of adventures, and I can’t wait to see what unfolds next.

Weekly High, Low, Buffalos, & Lessons Learned
High: Apart from the ball and the lovely waking up to the sound of birds twittering, I am extremely proud of my loved ones! No matter if in Austria or Boston, it is incredibly heartwarming to see what people close to me have accomplished and built for themselves within the last years, privately and professionally. One high was also celebrating a big professional milestone with a dear friend and a delicious seafood Paella.
Low: My Capstone project will be creative, and sometimes my perfectionism is in my way of creating
Buffalo: I went to the ball directly from an evening class, which ended at 9 pm. I felt slightly overdressed, attending the class in my ball gown.
Lessons Learned: Easier said than done – but what I told myself this week is, that it’s not about creating a perfect piece of art but rather about creating the most honest one I can.
Have a great start to the new week!
Liebe Grüße
Sophie
