From the UN to Cancun: A Whirlwind of Peace Talks, Tacos & Writing Song Lyrics

12. April 2024 – Huch – what a whirlwind the last weeks have been! Just after my last post, I was hopping from one beautiful, intense experience to the next one. Within one week, I found myself attending a United Nations conference in New York City, and eating tacos in Mexico for Spring Break. Back in Boston, it didn’t get less exciting as I am finishing up my Master’s.

UN Conference on Women, Peace & Security

Thanks to a project through the Harvard Law Dispute Systems Design Clinic, that I am involved in, I had the opportunity to attend the UN Women, Peace & Security conference at New York City. A highlight was the chance to support facilitating a UN side event on youth involvement in formal peace processes, which led to incredible new insights!

Spring Break in Mexico: Sunshine, Summer dresses, and Chichén Itzà

After NYC, I flew right to Cancun, joining friends from my program for Spring Break. We stayed at a lovely hotel, which was just a few minutes away from the beach. In the morning, the beach was almost empty – apart from the people working diligently to get the seaweed out of the way. Sunshine, salt water and walking around in my summer clothes felt good. (I switched those up again for winter coat and umbrella in Boston!)

Apart from eating, dancing, and sunbathing, a big highlight for me was seeing Chichen Itza. It is absolutely stunning that this is an actual Maya calendar. I was impressed at the way the architecture was designed so that a clap echoes a bird sound. No wonder it is one of the wonders of the world.

Life Update: Back in my Rhythm & Musical Capstone

The last weeks have been a little bit rough, as I was physically not fit. I noticed I have not built my schedule for days like these. The good news: I am back in my high-energy shape and catch up fast.

This week, I am finishing up the draft of my master’s thesis and the related Capstone project, which will beeee… a song! Yep, I am writing an original song as my final capstone project as a health intervention. I will record it already this Monday and am nervous (and thrilled).

High Low & Buffalo’s

High: Having recovered, and am back with my good old energy. Working on the song has been a sometimes (very) infuriating process, but it’s also extremely rewarding, and I see that it is getting somewhere.

Low: Being under the weather slowed things down

Buffalo: Realizing it’s been a month since my last post. I’ll try my best to post weekly again!
